Lace & Whimsy Lately ☆ No. 1
Once upon a time, I used to publish posts to this blog somewhat regularly. Twice a month turned into once a month, which turned into quarterly, which turned into radio silence. I've decided to revive this blog and... lower my standards for what I post here. Being a glossy lifestyle blogger with perfectly styled photos and Pinterest-worthy images has never been my thing. I'd rather focus that type of creative energy on my shop.
Lace & Whimsy started as my personal style blog I created as an escape from my soul-crushing day job as a bookkeeper. Then somehow along the way I became an "artist" and now have an online shop where people pay me money for things I make and it's my full time job. I'd have to draw you a complicated flow chart of how I got from point A to point B. It was not linear, I can tell you that much.
The blogging side of things has changed focus quite a bit over the years. It's always been pretty self-indulgent. But consider this post me giving myself permission to be even more self-indulgent. I don't want to think about Search-Engine-Optimization, having Pin-able images, or any of those things "Good Bloggers" do. I may just ramble about my life or what shows I've been watching or post cute pictures of my dogs. I like putting little snippets of my life out there so those of you who are interested can get to know me and what I'm all about.
A few rapid-fire bullet points about what's been going on in my little world...
I launched a Patreon page a few months ago. My patrons are so incredibly sweet, supportive. Writing casual updates to fill my patrons in on my current projects reminded me that I do enjoy writing, as long as it's in a low-pressure stream of consciousness format, which inspired me to revive my blog over here.
I'm working on a Tarot deck. You can read my blog post about that here and shop products I've created from the illustration series here. (For those of you asking when my full deck will be available... I'm aiming for by the end of 2018, but I really can't say for sure. There are 78 cards in a tarot deck and I've only done 31 of them.)
I've gone about a month now without pulling out my hair, which is a pretty freaking big deal for me. (You can read about my hair pulling disorder, Trichotillomania, in my previous blogs posts: Living With Trich Part One & Part Two.)
My mental health has been a dumpster fire for most of 2018, but things are looking up. I've started going to therapy recently and making some changes to my medications. I'll probably be self-actualizing any day now, so ya'll better watch out. ;)
Not too much else is new. I've been a little hermit the past few months. Most of my time is spent pouring my heart into managing my shop. When I'm not doing that, I'm focusing on my mental wellbeing and spending quality time with my family and a few close friends. Thanks for reading and I can't wait to continue posting more journal entries like this.
