Hello, friends! I am back home from Disney World and reunited with my dogs at last! Being away from the pups is tough. I have Daisy curled up by my side as I write this post and drink my Dunkin coffee -- another comfort I missed this past week.
Epcot was the only park we visited this trip. We've hit all the parks on our past couple trips and wanted to just relax and lounge by the pool a lot. (Plus, park tickets are pricey!)
Chris's parents spend their winters in their beautiful home in Vero Beach, FL. We usually stay with them for a week each Spring, but this year we decided to mix it up a bit and stay in Disney. They are Disney Vacation Club members and were kind enough to let us use their timeshare points.
His parents stayed two nights at the Polynesian Resort during our trip so they could visit with us a bit. We had dinner with them at the Polynesian on Tuesday night when they arrived. After dinner, we walked over to The Grand Floridian. I had never been inside before, and my goodness is it breathtaking! I wish I had brought the DSLR camera with me, but I did get a couple pictures on my iPhone.
The Grand Floridian was modeled after the Hotel del Coronado, which is where one of my favorite movies was filmed--Some Like It Hot, with Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon, and Tony Curtis.
There was a band playing in the lobby, doing instrumental jazzy covers of songs from various Disney movies. (I definitely snuck in some Charleston-ing to a cover of the genie's "You Ain't Never Had a Friend Like Me" from Aladdin while waiting for Chris's parents to finish up in one of the shops.)
On Wednesday, we spent the afternoon with Chris's parents in Downtown Disney. The four of us went to see the new live-action Cinderella movie. I loved it! And the Frozen Fever short before the film was adorable!
I thought the film was so well done. It definitely paid homage to the original animated feature while still bringing something new. The costumes were stunning. Everyone was so well cast. I truly can't think of a single complaint!
It was very cool to be able to see the movie in Downtown Disney. How fitting!
They had a glass slipper on display at the theater!.
Disney Cinderella Fairy Godmother Doll // Disney Cinderella Royal Ball Cinderella Doll // Disney Cinderella Lady Tremaine Doll // Funko POP Disney: Cinderella (Live Action) - Slipper Vinyl Figure // Disney Cinderella Wedding Day Cinderella Doll // Funko POP Disney: Cinderella (Live Action) - Cinderella Vinyl Figure
I just ordered myself the Cinderella FunKo Pop figure. I don't own any yet, but I've been buying some of the Marvel and Game of Thrones figures for Chris. I think it would be cool if we could display our collections in a movie room in our future house someday.
Walt Disney's Cinderella, Retold by Cynthia Rylant, Pictures by Mary Blair
If you haven't heard of Mary Blair, she was an American artist who drew concept art for Disney favorites such as Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan. Her illustrations are featured in Cynthia Rylant's storybook retelling of Cinderella. I own the copy pictured on the left. The reissue (which I believe is the same except for the cover art) is available on amazon.
